Welcome to the Greater
Educational
Opportunities Foundation

At the GEO Foundation, we believe that all children
should have access to a quality education.
We embrace all quality educational options that enable
parents to help their children learn and schools to
succeed. Through an aggressive community outreach and
the introduction of options that empower families, GEO
strives to make educational choice a reality for all
families.
At GEO, we take great care to ensure that the
information we provide is factual, informative and
helpful. We hope you will make use of the information on
this site, and use GEO as a resource when you share
information about education reform with your community.
Our
Mission:
The Greater Educational Opportunities Foundation
believes that all children should have access to a
quality education.
We embrace all quality educational options that enable
parents to help their children learn and schools to
succeed. Through extensive community outreach,
educational awareness programs, promotion of options
that empower families and the creation of new options,
the GEO Foundation strives to make educational choice a
reality for all families, regardless of ethnicity or
income.
GEO supports all quality means of educating children
including public, private, charter, religious, and home.
We believe that all of these educational choices have
the potential for excellence. We work to help parents
obtain the right to choose the educational option that
is best for their child.
We also work to develop community understanding of
school choice. We firmly believe that by presenting
parents with a menu of educational options including
public, private, charter and home, we will strengthen
all schools, creating excellent education for all
children. GEO Foundation specializes in building
community awareness, grassroots leadership and support
for educational options.
Local focus, national impact:
The GEO
Foundation, a non-profit 501(c) 3 research and
educational institution, was founded under the
leadership of President, Kevin Teasley, in June 1998.
GEO's outreach has grown steadily, and our work is
having a national impact…
Addressing the needs of the entire country is nearly
impossible for any single organization, and the best way
to assist the national movement is to create positive
examples at the local level. To this end, the GEO
Foundation is promoting the national cause for
market-based education reforms by perfecting its work at
the local level in Indiana and Colorado. GEO has been
the subject of two front-page stories in the New York
Times, and there have been numerous news accounts in the
Indianapolis Star, Denver Post, and Colorado Springs
Gazette. Last March, Forbes magazine published a
full-page feature on GEO's work with the grassroots and
our fact-finding trips to Milwaukee that have introduced
hundreds of people to school choice. In addition, GEO
has been invited to work with leaders at the Heritage
Foundation, and in various states including New Jersey,
Virginia, New Mexico and Delaware. Most recently we have
been the subject of extensive news coverage in the
Indianapolis Star and Indianapolis Business Journal for
our sponsorship of the 21st Century Charter School which
is authorized by Indianapolis Mayor Bart Peterson, and
opened in August 2002.
GEO's staff has a proven ability to implement a vision,
extensive experience and knowledge of education reform
issues, and a large national network of supporters. With
more than thirty years of combined experience working
directly with grassroots organizations, advocacy
organizations for parental empowerment policies in K-12
education, legislatures and the media, GEO has
demonstrated success in the public policy arena.
