One of the most important roles that we play for charter schools in Indiana is mostly unseen. The Service Center knows charter schools and, more importantly, it knows charter schools in Indiana. The CSSC is always involved in the latest issues effecting Indiana charter schools. We deal with authorizers, finance people, the business community, other sectors of the education community, and national charter school organizations. Through these dealings, the Service Center is able to be in a position to understand the broader issues that arise and, combined with our unique knowledge of schools, we can understand how these issues impact individual schools. As a result, the CSSC can often communicate an issue and offer a solution, if one is necessary, for Indiana charter schools. One specific example of this is the recent loan program that was negotiated for all Indiana charter schools to have access to loans in order to cover any shortages due to the delay in property tax payments. Stay involved by attending monthly best practice meetings at regional locations. There are several other examples and we will continue to keep abreast of the latest developments and share those with our member schools. |
