Great
leaders make great schools. Great schools make good students
and future members of the Indiana business community. Are
you or someone you know interested in learning more about
charter schools or serving on their boards? In order to
inform the community and to recruit additional board members
for new and operating charter schools, the Service Center is
hosting a series of board development luncheons to be hosted
in a few Indiana regions. We will kick off the series in
Indianapolis at 3 local charter schools. The Indianapolis
luncheons will be co-sponsored by the Indianapolis Chamber

Separate
but Equal?
IT HAS BEEN NEARLY FIVE years
since Indiana charter school legislation was passed in 2001. The now
almost 40 public charter schools operating throughout the state
serve almost 10,000 students. Many of whom are now thriving, after
leaving a public school system which was not meeting their needs.
These are the same public school systems eating operating on hefty
and continually increasing budgets.

Interview with
Brian Bosma:
LB: What is your position
on charter schools?
BB: As the author of the first Charter School bill
introduced in Indiana in 1992, I am a strong believer in the charter
school movement. I continued to fight with Sen. Theresa
Lubbers, Rep. Bob Behning and others to enact this important school
reform until it was finally adopted in 2001. I strongly
support charter schools and believe that the flexibility and
competition they introduce is one key to education success for the
future.
