What is unique about

my Charter School?
By Andrew King, Student at 21st Century Charter School at Gary

What is unique about my charter school is teachers just don’t give up on you. They try and they work with you in till you get it and you understand the things that they are teaching in the class.

At 21st Century Charter School @ Gary things happen in a positive way.  I feel safe here. When you first tell a teacher or staff member about a problem that you have or about wanting to fight someone or even someone wanting to fight you, the teachers help solve the problem.

Leadership is a big plus here; student and staff leadership skills are always working in and out of the class room.  Leaders are visible every where in my school.  Finally, the classrooms are a great size for kids and teens like me. There are not too many students, not too much room.

State Student Council

I have an idea for a state wide charter school student council. Starting at a regional level we could be the voice of student education in the state of Indiana. Unionized, our concerns observation and desires will be expressed as a group.

I have found it useful to create this political forum to introduce our students in the charter school to the political process of student government, to help them understand that they can be effective leaders by making desions that concern their, community, social and educational needs.

I think that every school should have some kind of student government in their school. Why, because it's a great way to get active in educational social power and with unity power.
