We are pleased to announce that we will be kicking off the Conference with a special presentation of The Power of One- a moving performance demonstrating what a determined individual can do. Indiana Department of Education Update:
Finance and Reporting Update - Debbie Hineline, Indiana Department of Education

1. When another school is claiming the same student as you, and you are unable to resolve the issue with the other corporation/school, contact Debbie at hineline@doe.state.in.us so that she may resolve the issue.

2. Take advantage of remediation dollars (based on ISTEP passing rates). Money is distributed in April/May of following year (application is usually due in June). Additional funding is available for students not passing GQE. The lump sum can be used for any remedial programs.

3. Don’t forget to take advantage of textbook reimbursement. Free and Reduced Lunch qualifying students also qualify for textbook reimbursement (you don’t have to participate in F/R Lunch program to qualify). Just remember books or software must be on the state adoption list to qualify for the reimbursement. Qualifying books are eligible for 20% reimbursement and workbooks (consumables) and K-3 developmentally appropriate texts are eligible for 100% reimbursement. Student data must be submitted through STN website before the text books costs can be tallied. Print off and send in to the IDOE to determine reimbursement.

$$$ Indiana Department of Education
McKinney Vento Transportation Grants

Grants will once again be available for school corporations to help offset the additional costs of transporting students experiencing homelessness. These funds are available through the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act of 1987, as amended by the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, to support school districts in meeting the needs of homeless children and youth. The Act requires that all homeless students be provided transportation to and from school, even if they are temporarily staying in a different district than the district they are attending. Districts are also required to provide homeless students with transportation even if transportation is not otherwise offered to students in the district.

Grants will be available in the amount of $10,000; up to eight corporations may receive this funding. First preference will be given to school corporations that do NOT receive other McKinney-Vento funding. Awards will be made based on the demonstrated needs of the school corporation and on a first come, first served basis for the period of October 1, 2007 to
September 30, 2008.

To receive more information, including information about a district McKinney-Vento Liaison, please contact Christina Endres at 317-232-0548 or endres@doe.state.in.us. Information can also be found online at: http://www.doe.state.in.us/alted/welcome.html. All grant applications should be submitted to Christina at Division of Educational Options, Room 229 State House, Indianapolis, IN 46204. (From Molly Chamberlin)  Deadline: ongoing, first come first serve | Grant Award: Up to $10,000
